My Top 5 Childhood Movies

I got a request yesterday to blog about what my favorite movies were when I was younger.

Honorable Mention: Little Giants

"Here they come! Here they come! Danny's in the Go-Kart."

I definitely watched this underdog story many times while growing up. And I'm now friends with Spike and Ice Box on facebook. Look up Sam Horrigan and Shawna Waldron if you wish to do the same.


5. Heavyweights

"All you need is Mother Earth, Father Sky, and your dear old Uncle Tony."

This comedy about kids at fat camp was co-written by Judd Apatow, the writer/director of recent hits such "Knocked Up" and "Funny People." This is also the movie that inspired the first half of my blog title. Remember to Perkisize 5 days a week.


4. The Sandlot

"Heroes get remembered, but legends never die. Follow your heart kid, and you'll never go wrong."

As a baseball player, obviously I flocked to this one. I considered Benny "The Jet" Rodriguez a legend and had a huge crush on Wendy Peffercorn. Plus, it's hard not to enjoy watching a loner slowly become part of the group. One of my high school classmate's even watched it in slow motion. But don't waste your time on that.


3. D2: The Mighty Ducks

"We're Team USA, and we're going all the way."

Gordon Bombay and the Ducks joined up with some of the finest talent from around the US to take on the world in the Junior Goodwill Games. Full of knucklepucks, Bash Brothers and an explanation of the differences between Iceland and Greenland, D2 is by far the best of the trilogy.

2. Home Alone 2: Lost in New York

Macaulay Culkin delivers another brilliant performance in this sequel, probably after consuming some of Michael Jackson's Neverland Ranch. Harry and Marv should have learned their lesson the first time, but they got owned again. Richie Rich made even bigger idiots of Tim Curry and Rob Schneider, and I enjoyed every minute. This is also the first movie I remember seeing in theaters.


1. 3 Ninjas

"First, we feast. Then, we felony."
"Rocky loves Emily! Rocky loves Emily!"
"We don't wanna hurt you. We just wanna KIDNAP you!!!"

There are so many great lines in this tale about 3 kids who help defeat a big-time weapons dealer. It still hasn't gotten old. The concept is absolutely ridiculous, but that makes it even better. And I can't wait for Halloween so I can dress as Rocky along with my friends who will be Colt and Tum Tum.
